令和2年7月豪雨により被災された皆さまに心よりお見舞い申し上げます。

そんな折りですが、ひとつ嬉しいご報告です。

ついに、8月8日、JR九州豊肥本線が再開されました。

平成28年の熊本地震で、熊本県内の肥後大津―阿蘇間(27km)は被災し不通となっていましたが、待望の4年4ヶ月ぶりに再開となった各駅では歓迎イベントが行われ、大きなにぎわいに包まれていました。

My thoughts are with those who are affected by 2020 July heavy rains.

We have happy news here in Aso. Finally, JR Kyushu reopened the JR Hohi Line fully on August 8^th, 2020. The 27-km route of the Hohi Line between Higo-Ozu Station and Aso Station had been closed since the area was enormously hit by the Kumamoto Earthquake in April, 2016. It has been 4 years and 4 months!!

Many people gathered and welcomed the trains and the passengers in all the stations between Higo-Ozu station and Aso station.

※あそぼーい！...2011年に登場した臨時特急観光列車。パノラマ席もあり、子ども連れや外国人客にも人気。

※"Aso boy" is a limited express train in Kyushu, Japan, operated by JR Kyushu since 2011. It has been popular among families with little kids and tourists from abroad.

阿蘇駅には、熊本県営業部長「くまモン」がかけつけました！

Sales manager of Kumamoto, "Kumamon" was so busy that he hurried to come join the ceremony in Aso station after he participated in another ceremony at Kumamoto station.

熊本地震により、立野峡谷の斜面が幅約200メートル、高さ約700メートルにわたり大きく崩壊し、直下を通る国道57号線とJR豊肥線が寸断されました。

崩落部の防災工事が完了し、今回の豊肥本線再開につながりました。

Huge landslides occurred in Tateno district in Minamiaso-village, National Route 57 and JR Hohi Line were shut down and Aso Ohashi Bridge collapsed. This is the area.

今後も明るいニュースが続きます。国道57号北側復旧ルート（二重峠トンネル）が今秋10月に、新阿蘇大橋が、来年3月に開通予定になっています。

More good news ahead in Aso! Other infrastructures are going to reopen not long after. National road no.57 (northern route with tunnel) in coming October and New Aso Ohashi bridge will be completed in March, 2021.

熊本地震直後は、「これから阿蘇はどうなるのだろう。」と不安ばかりが募りましたが、美しい阿蘇の自然を見ると、不思議に元気をもらえたことを鮮明に覚えています。

I still remember the day the devastating earthquake hit Kumamoto, and my heart was full of fear and worries thinking how we can survive this situation. But even in such an awful situation, beauty of Aso gave me a courage to move on.

今回の豊肥本線再開によって、阿蘇へ皆様がアクセスしやすくなりましたので、是非美しい阿蘇の自然を満喫しにいらしてください！

It is definitely a major step on recovery for not only Aso but the whole prefecture of Kumamoto.　Since it's getting more accessible to Aso, please come visit to enjoy the beauty and diversity of nature in Aso!
