Walks in Aso-Kuju National Park ~ Mt. Tagoyama~
2018年08月14日Trekking Series No.2 ~ Mt. Tagoyama in Aso Uchinomaki~
Greetings from Aso, Kumamoto!
This is my second article on trekkings in Aso for those who are looking for walks that are off the beaten track.
Located outskirts of Uchinomaki Onsen, Aso is Mt. Tagoyama with lots of myths and histories.
There is Surfing Goddess which is believed to be curved on a huge rock way back when Aso Caldera was still a lake. Also you can meet a couple of turtles who became separated when the water was drained from the caldera.
At the bottom of the Mt. Tagoyama is a historical Bungo road. Daimyo used to go and see Shogun and a statue where people pray for their safe journey and see people off.
Once you get to the top of Mt. Tagoyama, a breathtaking panoramic view is waiting for you (as photo below). 360 degrees of view over Aso Caldera, Aso mountain range and Aso valley where people live and farm. Mt. Tagoyama is accessible on foot from the central Uchinomaki Onsen and a relatively easy walk only with 300 meter difference in altitude.
▲Surfing Goddess: Surfing is now an official game for The Olympics in 2020. The Goddess might be a place to make a wish for surfers' success?!
▲Male turtle ▲ Female turtle
These turtles are looking toward each other and it is said that the male turtle is moving closer to the female turtle.
